Read More	Donald Menke DIED: April 23, 2013 LOCATION: Fort Madison, Iowa Donald B. Menke, 82, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 7:45 PM at The Madison. He was born on November 22, 1930 in St. Paul, IA to John and Elizabeth Merschbrock Menke. On April 7, 1956 he married Lillian E. Steffensmeier in St. Paul, IA and she passed away on June 16, 2005. Don worked at the Iowa State Penitentiary and retired as a Captain after thirty seven years of service. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Moose Lodge, VFW, Newbury Center, Izaak Walton League and the Pen City Singers. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Don was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed playing cards, singing, dancing and spending time with his family. Survivors include three daughters, Debra (Don) Sylvester of Wever, IA, Barbara Menke of Bolingbrook, IL and Teresa Guzman of Ft. Madison; one son, Randy (Becky) Menke of Fairfield, IA; seven grandchildren, Danny & Katie Sylvester, Kyle & Heidi Menke, Nicholas, Haley & Nolan Guzman; one brother, Arnold Menke of Ft. Madison; four sisters, Cecelia Moeller, Ruth Lamborn & Elaine Jamison all of Ft. Madison and Jean Hawkins of Keokuk; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a son, Joseph; two brothers and one sister. Friends may call after 2 PM on Friday, April 26, 2013 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM. A wake service will be held at 7 PM at the funeral home. The funeral mass will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Sacred Heart Church with the Revs. David Wilkening & Mark P. Spring officiating. Per his wishes, his body will be cremated following the service. Inurnment will be held at 10 AM on Monday, April 29, 2013 at Sacred Heart Cemetery with military rites performed by the Ft. Madison Veterans Honor Guard. A memorial has been established for the hand bell fund at Sacred Heart Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
