Description	:	Donald B. Rice Short Gap, W.Va. - Donald B. Rice, 73, of Short Gap, formerly of Cumberland, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at his great-nephew's residence. Born October 26, 1930, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Leo B. and Jessie V. (Spies) Rice. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Evans. Rice, 73, of Short Gap, formerly of Cumberland, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at his great-nephew's residence. Born October 26, 1930, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Leo B. and Jessie V. (Spies) Rice. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Evans. Mr. Rice had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired with 30 years of service as caretaker of SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery. Mr. Rice was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, and Fort Cumberland Post 13, American Legion. He was a life member of the Henry Hart Post 1411, V.F.W., the 25th Infantry Division Association, and Catholic Golden Age. Survivors include three nieces, Mary Ann Knight and husband Gary, Short Gap, Sandra Frey and husband Jeff, Tulsa, Okla., and Emma Savage, Cresaptown; great-nieces and nephews, Elmer A. Kerns Jr. and wife Christina, with whom he resided, Glenn A. Lowrey Jr., Cumberland, Melissa, Stephanie, Regina, Sabrina, Roger and Kevin Knight, Short Gap, Kelly Reid and husband Geoff, Austin, Texas, and Robert Mongold and wife Becky, Cresaptown; and several great-great nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. The Christian Wake Service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Bernard Finerty, O.F.M., Cap., as celebrant. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the local combined veterans honor guard.
