Description	:	Lifelong Helena resident Donald C. Eggan passed away on Feb. 11, 2007, after a three-month battle with cancer. Don was born in Helena on Nov. 3, 1933, to Eugene and Ruth Montgomery Eggan, the fifth of seven children. At age 7, Don moved in with his uncle Charles and his aunt Viola Mauritz. Eggan passed away on Feb. 11, 2007, after a three-month battle with cancer. Don was born in Helena on Nov. 3, 1933, to Eugene and Ruth Montgomery Eggan, the fifth of seven children. At age 7, Don moved in with his uncle Charles and his aunt Viola Mauritz. Don served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1956. Toward the end of his Navy career, Don married Mary Lou Ponikvar on Oct. 26, 1956, in Norfolk, Va. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. After his discharge from the Navy, Don started his career with Mountain Bell and later transferred to AT&T, where he was an instructor and technical assistant. Upon early retirement, Don started his own business, Electronic Specialty, installing and servicing phone systems in businesses and hospitals around the state. Being a "computer geek," he also built computers to user specifications. For many years, Don and Mary Lou enjoyed traveling. A gambling trip to Nevada would soon be followed by a cruise or a trip to Europe. Frequent trips to Acapulco always included fishing for marlin and sailfish and then it was off to Alaska to catch halibut and salmon. The tables were turned when their kids could no longer keep track of their parents. Learning to play poker in his Navy days, Don continued to play "real poker, not Texas hold-em," with five-card stud being his favorite. Weekly poker games were expected in the Eggan home. As well, both Don and Mary Lou became avid Montana Grizzly fans and rarely missed a Griz football game. Don kept busy all of his life building and then renovating their home, restoring cars and taking on any job that was a challenge. Electronics were his passion with his home full of gadgets of all kinds. He loved holidays. For over thirty years, the family planned ways to scare the "little goblins" on Halloween and find great hiding places for Easter eggs. Christmas was his favorite holiday of all. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; daughters, Yvonne (Dave) Casagrande of Billings and Karen (Perry) Jacobson of Whitefish; granddaughters, Shannon (Mike) Marceau of Washington, Brenna Ryan and her fiance Jamie Livingston of Bozeman; grandsons, Kyle and Michael Jacobson, Shawn and Kristi Casagrande; great-grandsons, Max and Gus Marceau; sister, Donna (Chuck) Eatinger of Helena; brother, Eugene (Jeanne) Moe of Oregon; mother-in-law, Staffie DeMay of Helena; sister-in-law, Joanne Bjorklund of Arizona; brother-in-law, Edward (Peg) Ponikvar of North Carolina; as well as nieces and nephews, Debbie (Dave) Olson of Helena, Steven Freeburg of Oregon, Rene Little of Helena, Jacque (Jim) Corey of Arizona, Michele Bernard of Arizona, Oly (Maleen) Olson of Helena, Bradley Olson of Great Falls, Laurie (Tim) Gardiner of California, Egan (Aga) Moe of Hawaii and Laurie (Tim) Gardner of Arizona. Preceding him in death were his brothers, Bobby and Kenneth, and sisters Evelyn Moe and Jacqueline Freeburg. At Don's request cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice. "At my age I have seen it all, heard it all, done it all, but in the end I couldn't remember it all. Had a great life."
