Bond and Elizabeth Eshelman Bond was born July 16, 1914 and passed away September 18, 1957. Donald grew to manhood near Fontanelle, attended the rural schools of the community and helped with the farm work on his parents' farm. On December 30, 1940 he was united in marriage to Maxine Hagler. To this union two children were born to bless the home. April 1st 1942 he entered the service of the U.S. Army, and after three years in the service, with two years overseas in the South Pacific, he was discharged in September 1945. After being discharged from the army he began farming a few miles northwest of Fontanelle where he farmed until his health failed. In 1954 he moved to Aurora, Missouri where he operated a store. In the fall of 1956 he sold the store and moved back to Fontanelle, Iowa where he bought and improved the home the family occupied at the time of his death. Donald, even though he was unable to work was never satisfied to just sit around so he busied himself by selling seed corn and feed and doing things he was able to do. He was preceded in death by an infant sister; also his mother, who passed away on Jan. 11, 1955. He is survived by his wife Maxine, a daughter Donna, and a son Randall; his father, W.C. Bond, all of Fontanelle; four brothers, Wilbur, Bridgewater, Clifford of Massena, Elwood of Fontanelle, Bernard of Council Bluffs; and five sisters, Mrs. Blanche Shilling of Greenfield, Mrs. Maymie Brown and Mrs. Alice Huff, both of Fontanelle and Mrs. Doris Green and Mrs. Marietta Twombly, both of Greenfield.
