Donald Curtice Damrow, 87 years of age, of Gothenburg, Nebraska (formerly of Holdrege) passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at the Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg. Don was born May 23, 1928 at Roca, Nebraska, the youngest of four children born to George and Hattie (Eis) Damrow. He received his education in Roca, where he graduated from Rokeby High School with the class of 1945. Don then pursued higher education at the University of Nebraska Ag College in Lincoln. On June 16, 1948 he was united in marriage to Velma “June” Miller and to this union four children were born: Dick, Linda, Dennis, and Marty. The couple engaged in farming near Roca until moving to a farm north of Holdrege in 1951, where Don continued to farm and raise livestock. Don’s life revolved around family, the farm, cattle sales and after working on the farm, he loved to go dancing. On May 5, 1996 he was preceded in death by his wife, June. In later years, Don moved from Holdrege to Gothenburg where his son and daughter-in-law reside. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Phelps-Gosper Livestock Feeders, and the Elks and Eagles Clubs for several years. Besides his wife, and his parents; Don was preceded in death by two sons: Dick and Marty Damrow; two brothers: Paul and Harvey Damrow; and one sister, Grace Walvoord and her husband, Marvin. He leaves to celebrate his life; his daughter, Linda Slothower and her husband, Gordon of Springdale, Arkansas; son, Dennis Damrow and his wife, Sherry of Gothenburg; daughters-in-law: Mary Jen Bear of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Jodi Damrow of Holdrege; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Grace Damrow of Roca and Marilyn Wedburg and her husband, John of Verona, Wisconsin; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege. A memorial has been established in Don’s honor and kindly suggested to the Phelps County Community Foundation. Expressions of caring and kindness can be sent to the family at www.nelsonbauerfh.com The Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege was in charge of the arrangements.
