Hohensee – age 89 of Pocahontas, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2010 at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa. Donald David Hohensee was born April 16, 1921, near Pocahontas, Iowa. He was the son of Walter and Rena (Dirks) Hohensee. He attended country school near Pocahontas. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II from 1942 – 1945. For his service Don was awarded the Purple Heart. Following his discharge in 1945, Don returned to Pocahontas where he farmed. On December 13, 1949, Don married Eleanor Schott in Pocahontas. The couple settled in Pocahontas. In 1983, Don retired from farming. Don was a member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church, the American Legion, the D.A.V. and the V.F.W. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing pinochle at the body shop and car races. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor of Pocahontas; children, Connie (William) Zaugg of West Bend; Charlie Hohensee of Pocahontas; Roger (Ellen) Hohensee of Pocahontas; Sister Renae Hohensee of Sioux City; Debby (Darwin) Eaton of Pocahontas and Dean (Carole) Hohensee of Pocahontas; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and sisters-in-law, Eileen Hohensee of Pocahontas and Elsena Hohensee of Albert City. Don was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Raymond and Vernon Hohensee.
