Description	:	Donald De Gooyer, Sr., 86, of Sioux Center died Tuesday morning, November 12, at the Sioux Center Community Nursing Facility. Memorial service was Friday at 11 a.m. at Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center with the Rev. Van Rathbun officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Sioux Center. De Gooyer was born February 10, 1916, at Sioux Center to John and Eugenia (Hammond) De Gooyer. As a young child, he moved with his family to Washington state. De Gooyer was born February 10, 1916, at Sioux Center to John and Eugenia (Hammond) De Gooyer. As a young child, he moved with his family to Washington state. They returned to Sioux Center int eh late 1920's where he finished his education. He married Geraldine "Dean" Addink in 1935. The couple lived in Sioux Center. She died February 18, 2001. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was stationed stateside as a member of an infantry division. He was employed by Mutual Telephone Company for 17 years and then was postmaster in Sioux Center for 22 years, retiring in 1976. He was a longtime member of Central REformed Church and of the Doornink-Brunsting Post 199, American Legion of Sioux Center. He was an outdoor enthusiast enjoyed taxidermy and woodworking and was an accomplished, self-taught gunsmith. Survivors include his three sons and daughters-in-law, Millard and Maureen De Gooyer of Schoolcraft, Michigan, Donald D. and Nelva De Gooyer of Sioux Center and Jim and Charlene De Gooyer of Rock Rapids; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lynn De Gooyer of Sacremento, California; and nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a grandson; a great-grandson; a brother, Marvin De Gooyer; and two sisters, Inez Hiemstra and Geraldine De Gooyer. Sioux Center News - 20 November 2002
