Description	:	Donald Dean O'Hara was born on June 25, 1931 to Maynard O'Hara and Elizabeth Hamilton O'Hara in Spencer, Iowa. Don passed away on May 21, 2022, at the Spencer Hospital in Spencer at the age of 90. Don's father passed away when Don was only 4 years old, leaving behind 9 children, so it was at a young age that he began to do things like helping in the garden and taking care of chickens. He was only in sixth grade when he had his first job washing dishes... Read More	Donald Dean O'Hara was born on June 25, 1931 to Maynard O'Hara and Elizabeth Hamilton O'Hara in Spencer, Iowa. Don passed away on May 21, 2022, at the Spencer Hospital in Spencer at the age of 90. Don's father passed away when Don was only 4 years old, leaving behind 9 children, so it was at a young age that he began to do things like helping in the garden and taking care of chickens. He was only in sixth grade when he had his first job washing dishes in a restaurant to help out with the needs of the family. Donald graduated from Spencer High School. He was inducted into the Army in 1952 and following his training, he served his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954. Don worked for the Gamble's store in Spencer and later managed several Gamble's stores in Kansas and Iowa. When he returned to Spencer, he owned and operated a custodial service. After Don's stepfather passed away, he cared for his mother for more than 20 years. Recently he told his niece that his family members had been the most influential people in his life. He was proud of his family and had pictures of them prominently displayed in his home and in numerous photo albums. For the past two years, Donald had resided at Cobble Creek Assisted Living in Spencer. He enjoyed watching televised sports, especially the Cubs, Vikings, and Iowa Hawkeyes. He had a sharp mind and an independent spirit. Donald was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth, his father, Maynard; his stepfather, William DeWitt, brothers: Orville, Orvan, Kenneth, Harold, Bob and Danny and sisters: Dawn and Delores. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer. VISITATION Will be held one hour prior to the Memorial Service at Warner Chapel.
