Ayr, Iowa when he left this world and went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 25, 2021, at the age of 90 years. Don was born in Decatur County, Iowa on January 10, 1931, to Horry and Lela (Spencer) Redman. He was born at home and his childhood was spent on the family farm in rural Grand River in Decatur County, Iowa the youngest of seven children, Robert, Leonard, Maurice, Beulah, Bernice, and Anabel. Don was a big help on the farm and attended the Leon Brethren Church with his family where he accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized at an early age. He attended country school before Leon High School graduating in 1949. On September 9, 1951, he married his high school sweetheart, Donna Jean Warren, at the Brethren Church in Leon, Iowa. In November of 1951, he was drafted into the military and served in the United States Marine Corp until November of 1953. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton at San Diego, California, and served a stint in Korea during the Korean Conflict. During that time his bride, Donna, had moved to San Diego to be close to him. After his honorable discharge, they moved back to Iowa where he worked as a farmhand at Huxley. In 1959, they moved back to Leon where he worked for Smith Feed, driving a feed mill for a year before beginning his career with the Soil Conservation Service in Leon. He also served the SCS at the Albia office from 1962 until 1966, and in Creston from 1966 till 1968, before returning to the Leon office where he remained until retiring from the SCS in 1989. Don was the proud father of three children, David Wayne, Deanne Kay, and Darrell Lynn. He was a loving and supportive father to them and made every effort to be at their sporting events and other activities they were involved in. While living in Albia, he was very involved in his church, serving as a deacon, teaching Sunday school, and donating many hours helping build the new church building. After returning to Leon he was an active member of the Leon Bible Church where he and Donna served in many capacities and were well known for helping out in the nursery or Sunday school. He was also a member of the Freedom Bible Camp and served on the board in rural Chariton, Iowa. He and Donna spent countless days mowing yard, cleaning buildings, and helping maintain the camp. During the month of August they could be found at the Iowa State Fair in their camper, hosting family and enjoying meeting new people. A tradition they have passed on to some of their family. As their grandchildren got older and involved in sports and 4-H and other activities they made every effort to attend as many of their events as possible, even getting to know their friends. Don became an adopted grandpa for many of them. Don was not only a devoted father and grandfather, but devoted months and years to caring for the needs of other family members with a ready smile and loving heart. After the death of his beloved wife in 2014, he eventually sold the home place and moved into Leon. He loved being closer to family, church, and going out for coffee with his buddies! Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Donna; his six sibling and their spouses; and two nephews. Left behind to carry on his legacy are his children, David and Linda Redman of Leon, Iowa, Deanne and Dan Bowers of Fairfield, Iowa, and Darrell and Teresa Redman of Leon; eight grandchildren, Brent Redman, Erica Evans and finance, Scott Mineart, Clint & Reagen Redman, Andy & Ashley Bowers, Angie & Troy Bisgard, Aly & Bruce Dahlhauser, Michael Redman, and Ashley & Zac Cooper; and 20 great grandchildren. Also numerous nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends survive him.
