Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord, with Father Mark Maresh officiating. Burial will be in the Kent Cemetery near Taylor. Military Honors will be provided by the Clifford Clark American Legion Post #298 of Burwell. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Donald Duane was born Dec. 26, 1930, to Obert and Alice (Fox) Dimmitt in Loup County. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Don and Cathy and Jeff all of Ord; a daughter, Pam Johnson of Ord; six grandchildren, Christina Dimmitt, Raymon Dimmitt and his wife Amanda, Lacey Dimmitt, Jason Johnson, Dana Hill and Dawn Myer; and four great-grandchildren, Sydney, Sayde, Aliya and Anastyn. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores; two brothers, Bill and Bob; a sister, Doris Dierburger; and a son-in-law, Ken Johnson. He was the youngest of four children, including two brothers, Bill and Bob, and a sister, Doris. Growing up in Loup County, he attended Star Rural School and graduated from Burwell High School in 1950. Don answered his nation's call in 1950, serving in the United States Army for two years as an anti-aircraft artillery coordinator. In 1955, while driving a truck, he met Delores Cooley at Omaha. The couple was united in marriage on Sept. 8, 1957. To this union three children were born — Don Jr. ("Punk"), Pam and Jeff. In 1959 they moved to a cattle ranch south of Atkinson until 1967, when the family moved south of Emmett, Neb. Don worked seven days a week on the Schaffer Ranches and was engaged in various tasks of a working cattle ranch. His worked include calving hundreds of cows and heifers, harvesting hay, feeding the livestock throughout the winter, and everything in between. In 1973 they moved to Atkinson, where Don worked for Charles Shane at a feedlot operation. In 1976 the family moved to Elyria, where they purchased and operated their own business. During this time Don also drove a truck for K Truck Line until retirement in 2000. Don was a member of the American Legion. For a number of years Don and Delores enjoyed playing in a country western band on the weekends. They also cared for their twin grandchildren, Christina and Raymon, when they were 4 and 5 years old.
