Wheeler, son of Frank and Mary (McDonnell) Wheeler, was born August 21, 1914, in Montrose, SD. Read More	Don Wheeler died on Wednesday, January 5, 1994 at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls. He had reached the age of 79 years, 4 months and 14 days. Donald E. Wheeler, son of Frank and Mary (McDonnell) Wheeler, was born August 21, 1914, in Montrose, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Tom, three brothers, Leo, Leonard, and Bernard, and his step-mother, Maude Wheeler. He grew up in the Montrose area and graduated from Montrose High School in 1933. Don spent one year in the Black Hills CCC camp. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Montrose. He served in the US Army from 1941 until 1945 during WW II. After the war Don returned to Montrose and on June 12,1947, he married Rose Garry in Salem. Don farmed near Montrose until 1982 when he retired. They moved into Montrose in 1981. Don also drove for Odell Trucking. Don was active in basketball while in high school and also played for the Montrose independent team. He was also a catcher for the Montrose baseball team for many years. Survivors include: his wife of Montrose; one daughter, Mrs. James (Jane) Boysen of Sioux falls; four sons, Patrick of De Smet, SD, Michael and his wife Joanne of Salem, Richard and his wife Wanita of Sioux Falls, and Charles and his wife Peggy of Harrisburg, SD; seven grandchildren, Markell Boysen, Heather, Dylan, Shane, Lance, Kyle, and Kurt Wheeler; two brothers, Marion and his wife Isabel of Sioux Falls, and Gene of Montrose; and four sisters, Mrs. Francis (Vera) Stanton of Sioux Falls, Mrs. Leonard (Blanche) Ideker and Mrs. Norman (Gladys) Hanson both of Humboldt, and Mrs. Francis (Nadine) Zimmer of Hartford. Funeral Mass for Donald E. Wheeler was held 1-8-1994 in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Montrose, SD. Fr. Ladislaus Dudak celebrated the Mass. Burial was in the church cemetery. Scripture service was held Friday in the church with Fr. Ron Garry officiating. Pallbearers were Jim Wheeler, Ron Hanson, Bernard Ideker, Kevin Garry, Mark Garry, and Jon Garry.
