Description	:	Donald Earle Thompson, 72, passed away Feb. 26 at Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., March 2, at Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine with Rev. Dr. J. Samuel Subramanian officiating. Recorded music was, "Amazing Grace," "In the Garden," "Far Side Next to Jordan," and "Danny Boy." Honorary pallbearers were Merrill Gardner, Charles Johnsen, Kenny Leytham, Ervin Meyer, Bill Pryor and Darrell Reif. Donald was born July 6, 1939, to Earle and Gladys (Smith) Thompson in Woodbine. Don was raised in Woodbine and graduated from Woodbine High School in 1957. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves as a mechanic at Fort Smith in Arkansas. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Woodbine to farm. He then started his career as an over-the-road trucker as well as a local trucker. He trucked through 40 different states. Don married Marva Baxter in December of 1962 and the couple was blessed with four children. On Dec. 7, 1980, Don married Elaine (Hodges) Caddell and the couple made their home in Woodbine. Don enjoyed hunting for deer and mushrooms. He also enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre, pinochle and cribbage. Don was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, John Riordan. Survivors include his wife, Elaine Thompson of Wood-bine; four children, Kim Gibb, Dawn (Andy) David, all of Omaha, Neb., James (Brenda) Thompson of On-awa, Jerone (Catherine) Thompson of Omaha, Neb.; 10 grandchildren, three great grandchildren; two stepsons, Jerry Caddell of Council Bluffs and Larry (Deb) Caddell of Woodbine; six step-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Donna (Mel) Doty of Oelwein and Doris Riordan of Huntley, Ill.; many other relatives and friends.
