Description	:	Donald E. Easley, lifelong Defiance resident and World War II veteran, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at age 84 after a short illness. He was born on Aug. 18, 1924, in Defiance, to Samuel Burton and Adeline Easley. In 1945, he married Marie McFeeters, who passed away in 2005. He served in World War II as a gunner on a Navy Catalina seaplane, flying 30 combat missions in the South Pacific and receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and two Air Medals. He was born on Aug. 18, 1924, in Defiance, to Samuel Burton and Adeline Easley. In 1945, he married Marie McFeeters, who passed away in 2005. After returning to Defiance, he entered the U.S. Postal Service, where he delivered mail on both city and rural routes until his retirement in 1979. He then worked part time for the State Bank and Trust Co. of Defiance until 1987. He was a member of the local VFW, the American Legion and the Defiance Elks Lodge. He was preceded in death by his brothers Ralph, Carl, George, Glen, Claire and Warren; his sister, Donna Molter; and his half sister, Thelma Brandon. A grandchild, Rachel Miller, died in infancy in 1975. Friends and family may call at the Mast-Mock-Hoffman-Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance on Thursday, March 19, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the local chapter of the VFW.
