Donald Edward Hoffart was born July 23, 1926, at Plainview to Frederick and Ida (Hansen) Hoffart and was baptized on Aug. 8, 1926, at Zion Lutheran Church in Plainview by the Rev. Jacob Holtstein. He was confirmed on March 17, 1940, at Zion Lutheran Church in Plainview by Pastor Holstein. His confirmation verse was John 8: 31-32, “If ye continue in my word, then ye are my disciples indeed, and ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make ye free.” He attended Eden Valley country school, graduating from Plainview High School in 1944, and attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Don married Ardeth Darlene Behrens on March 19, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church in Plainview. God blessed the marriage with five children. They farmed together five miles north of Breslau before retiring and moving to Plainview. Ardeth died Oct. 21, 1995. On April 7, 2005, he married Bernice Rogge. Bernice died on Nov. 24, 2009. Don was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church and was involved in LLL, Fellowship Club and couples Bible class. He served on the finance board, school board, evangelism board and as an elder. He enjoyed farming, traveling, horseshoes, bicycling, tilling gardens and spending time with family. He is survived by children, daughter Nancy and Bill Staub of Hoskins; sons Glen and Robin, Roger and Debbie, all of Osmond, Stanley of Yankton. S.D., and Lorenz and Sandy of Pierce; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was loved by many and will be missed. He was preceded in death by wives Ardeth and Bernice, his parents, brother Lorenz and grandchild Joshua.
