Gebbie Sr and Minnie Stone Gebbie, was born Nov 19 1916 at Clarinda and died June 22, 1989. at Mercy Hospital in Corning. when he was two years old the family moved to North Dakota until returning to Iowa in 1930. After graduation from high school, he began working In the Gebbie Grocery Store at Carbon in 1934. On May 11, 1935, he was married to Rowena Smith at Maryville, Missouri. He received his honorable discharge in 1945 and returned to Carbon where he worked at the Gebbie Store for 34 years, retiring in 1968. He was baptized to the Methodist faith, belonged to the National Guard for many years, and was a member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers Wilbur, Frank, and Arthur Gebbie; one sister. Viola Bailiff; and a granddaughter, Darla Jean Johnson He is survived by his wife; his daughter. Pat, and he husband Darl D. Johnson of Jacksonville, Florida; one brother, Robert Gebbie Jr. of Carbon; one sister, Velma Hancock of Atlantic; two grandsons: and one greatgranddaughter. Services were held June 24 at the Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Coming with the Rev. Bob Fisher officiating Casket bearers were Ray Thomas. Ronald Smith Dallas Hickman. John Armstrong, Kenneth Bixler, and Harry (Dive) McMorran. Honorary bearers were Don Wolf, Virgil Lee. Ramon Haley. Wayne Goodvin, Norvell Houck, and Mark Boswell. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery at Quincy with military rites conducted by the Corning American Legion Oureq Post 117. Adams County Free Press, June 29, 1989, page 2
