Noller, age 99, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at the Waterford Health Care Center in Juno Beach, FL with his nieces by his side. Donald E. was born on his father’s birthday, January 9, 1920, on the family homestead near Sigourney, IA to Glenn H. and Bernice M. (Snakenberg) Noller. He rode his horse to East Laufer school, a one room school house through the 8th grade. He graduated from Sigourney High School in 1938 and attended Iowa State College in Ames, IA, graduating in 1943, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics. He completed his master’s degree courses but was drafted into the Army before he could present his oral thesis on “The Importance of Aviation in the Distribution of Agricultural Commodities”. A natural born leader, he was very involved in high school FFA and at Iowa State in ROTC, Men’s Glee Club, Student Activities Board, YMCA men’s quartet, and Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. Drafted into service in early 1943, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant at the Field Artillery School in Ft Sill, OK where he became an instructor. He joined the 9th Armored Division in Camp Polk, LA & attended Battery Exec School in Fort Sill before being commissioned as Captain of a Howitzer Company in the China-Burma-India Theater attached to a division of the British Indian Army made up of Gurkha soldiers. He was discharged from active service in 1946, but in order to be discharged one day early to re-join Jane, he served in the National Guard, Ottumwa, IA until 1949. He married Jane Melissa Baker, whom he met at Iowa State, in Crafton, PA on July 13, 1943. They were married nearly 72 years before Jane passed away in March 2015. After the military, Donald E. sold International Harvester farm implements and Packard automobiles in partnership with his brother, Thomas H Noller in Fairfield IA. After the death of their father in 1953, he returned to Sigourney to join brother David in the family grain and livestock farming operation. In 1962, he and Jane moved to Evansdale, IA where Don served as President & Chairman of the Board of a newly chartered bank, the First National Bank of Evansdale. At last, he found his passion and served the remainder of his working life in banking. After moving to Florida in 1975, “retirement” soon eluded him as he was hired by several local banks in the Jupiter-Tequesta-Palm Beach Gardens area as a business & marketing consultant. Soon he was hired to manage Singer Island National Bank, Pan American Bank and banks in Oak Brook Square & West Palm Beach. He grew each bank to $1,000,000 in assets before he moved on to the next. He "worked the streets" and was the epitome of a relationship banker. Always incredibly curious, he knew every back alley to avoid traffic, every back door to enter businesses, the contents behind every door. Gregarious and outgoing, he never met a stranger. Throughout his life, he was active in countless professional organizations and has served on many local bank boards and committees, Director of Iowa Independent Bankers Asso., Director of Regional Export Expansion Council for US Dept of Commerce, Member of Advisory committee for the establishment of the Federal Reserve Regional Processing Center in Des Moines., IA. He was always engaged in civic activities to enhance the communities in which he lived, including Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, hospital foundation boards in Keokuk County, Iowa and Jupiter Hospital Medical Center. HIs churches benefitted from his expertise on their boards of Trustees, as did Waterford Retirement Community where he served as Resident Council President and Finance Committee Chairman. He and Jane enjoyed traveling, family and friends, Atlanta Braves baseball and Iowa State Football. They enjoyed numerous cruises to the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe, and US waterways. Car travels to Iowa would also find them in cemeteries and court houses as he was the family historian long before Ancestry.com became a “thing”. Survivors include niece Nancy Noller Jones of Coeur d’Alene, ID; nephew Jon David Noller and wife Cheryl of Dallas City, IL; niece Natalie Noller Johnson and husband Daniel of Winston Salem, NC; nephew: Thomas H Noller Jr and wife Janelle of Kent, WA, numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; two brothers, Thomas H. Noller and wife Evelyn of Lantana, FL and David E. Noller and wife Jean of Sigourney, IA; nieces Carolyn S. Noller and Patricia T. Noller Timmerman, nephew Dr. David W. Jones and twin great-nieces Brynn Katherine and Tyler Sydney Reichert. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, May 30th 2019 at the First United Methodist Church of Jupiter-Tequesta, 815 East Indiantown Road, Jupiter, FL. Burial will take place on Friday, July 6th at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney, Iowa.
