Description	:	Donald Ellsworth Hewitt, 74, rural Sabetha, died Friday, May 22, 1992, at a Seneca hospital. Mr. Hewitt owned and operated a garage and service station for Sinclair Oil Co., in Oneida, and farmed near Oneida for 46 years. He was a World War II veteran. Read More	Donald Ellsworth Hewitt, 74, rural Sabetha, died Friday, May 22, 1992, at a Seneca hospital. Mr. Hewitt owned and operated a garage and service station for Sinclair Oil Co., in Oneida, and farmed near Oneida for 46 years. He was a World War II veteran. He was born June 23, 1917, near Kelly, in Nemaha County, the son of Arvil Jasper "Jack" and Rose Belle Chandler Hewitt. Mr. Hewitt was graduated from Holliday Junior High School and attended Topeka High School. Mr. Hewitt was a member of the Oneida Methodist Church, where he served on the board of trustees. He also served as Oneida city clerk and on the Oneida Rural High School Board of Education. He was recognized for 14 years as a community leader of the Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club in Oneida and as a 47-year member of the Masonic Lodge No. 386 A.F.& A.M. in Oneida. Mr. Hewitt was a charter member of Sparing-Moore Post No. 21 of the American Legion in Oneida, the Earle W. Taylor Post No. 21 of the American Legion, and he was a life member of Post No. 7285 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Sabetha. He was married to Eleanor Meyer on December 2, 1939. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Ellsworth Joy Hewitt, Maple Hill; three brothers, Embert Hewitt, Denver, J. Gaylord Hewitt, Topeka, and Kendall Hewitt, Sabetha; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha. Burial will be at Oneida Cemetary. Masonic services and military honors will be conducted. Mr. Hewitt will lie in state after noon today at the Mortuary, the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Oneida Methodist Church, Nemaha Valley Community Hospital or the American Cancer Society and sent in care of the mortuary.
