Don was born on February 18, 1928, in Henry County, the son of Maynard and Alice Johnson Whaley. He was united in marriage to Martha Calhoun on November 12, 1948, they just celebrated 68 years of marriage. He has lived his entire life in Henry County, Iowa, spending almost 30 years in the Oakland Mills community. He was very involved in the Oakland Mills Community Church along with the AWANA program. Don was a kind and generous man. He would help anyone in time of need. He enjoyed people and loved to jump in to help;sometimes when most would think the task was impossible. he was a man of his word and his hand shake was better than anyone's signature on paper. Don was a man of God and loved life to the fullest. Martha was and will always be the love of his life. Every day was a perfect day to wake up and see her. His family was his joy. Don and Martha loved to load up the kids and grand kids in the camper bus for family events and vacations. Later in life Don enjoyed talking his family across the United States to explore Flea Markets and visit friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents.
