Funeral services will be Saturday, February 14, at 11 a.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Binford, ND. Visitation will be Friday, February 13, 3-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. in the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel, Cooperstown, ND and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the spring in the Binford Cemetery. Donald was born to Henry and Zoe Asmus April 24, 1924, at home on the family homestead in Rosendal Township near Binford. He grew up with his six sisters and graduated from Binford High School in 1941. After graduation Donald farmed with his dad, Henry Asmus, and trucked cattle throughout the local area. In 1945, Donald married his high school sweetheart, Inez Halvorson, at Binford and continued to farm. Donald and Inez became the parents of two daughtersl, Beverly in 1946 and Dyanne in 1947. Retiring from farming in 1954, Donald and family moved into Binford. He worked for the McVille Lumberyard, in McVille, ND, and then became a bus driver for 29 years for Edlund Bus Service, providing transportation for the Binford School District. During his off months in the summer Donald worked construction for Griggs County. Donald retired in 1989. During these years Donald was a deputy sheriff for Griggs County, served on the Rosendal Township School Board, was the treasurer for Trinity Lutheran Church in Binford, ND, was treasurer for the Red Willow Bible Camp and served on the Social Security Board for Griggs County. In November, 2003, Donald, due to declining health, entered the Cooperstown Medical Center Nursing Home in Cooperstown, ND. Donald will be remembered by his wife, Inez of Binford, ND; two daughters, Mrs. Beverly (Gerald) Blace of Henderson, NV, and Mrs. Dyanne (Gayle) Streff of Rocklin, CA; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Shirley Hanson of Bothell, WA, Mrs. Maxine (Joe) Berger of Valley City, ND, and Mrs. Geraldine Hedlund of Excelsior, MN. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Zoe Asmus; three sisters, Mrs. Edna Whitman, Mrs. Dorothy Flamme and Mrs. Audrey Helland.
