Description	:	Donald Eugene Lloyd was born July 14, 1932 at the family’s rural Milnor home in Ransom County to Robert James and Luilla Mable (Pech) Lloyd. Donald was raised on the family farm located next to the Sheyenne River. He attended Scoville school through eighth grade and attended Lisbon High School. Read More	Donald Eugene Lloyd was born July 14, 1932 at the family’s rural Milnor home in Ransom County to Robert James and Luilla Mable (Pech) Lloyd. Donald was raised on the family farm located next to the Sheyenne River. He attended Scoville school through eighth grade and attended Lisbon High School. Donald Joined the Battery A 188th Field Artillery Battalion National Guard Stationed in Lisbon. In January 1951, the unit was activated for service during the Korean War. Training included stops at Fort Rucker Alabama and Fort Hood Texas. Due to his father’s health, Donald returned to North Dakota and farmed with his parents until May 2, 1954 when he and Laura Mae Huether were married at Elliot Lutheran Church. Laura and Don made their first home on a cattle ranch in the Venlo, Ransom County area. In April 1957, Don began his employment with Melroe Manufacturing Co. (Bobcat) as a member of the company’s initial workforce. He worked at the factory for 37+ years before retiring in 1995 and was a member of Local 560 AIW and served as its secretary. During his time in Gwinner, he served as Municipal Judge, a member of the Volunteer Fire Department and American Legion. The family moved to Lisbon in 1971. They were members of Trinity Lutheran Church with Don serving on the church council at one point. Don was also a member of the Lisbon American Legion and once served as Commander. In 2019, he received a 60-year Continuous Membership Award in the Legion. Don served two terms (1981-1985) in the North Dakota House of Representatives from Legislative District 26 and was active in organizing the Ransom Sargent Rural Water District from 1994 to 2006 having served on the original board. Family was Don’s driving force whether working to provide for needs or leisure activities. They enjoyed long weekends at the lake fishing and camping, visiting friends, shooting gophers or whatever Laura wanted to do. From his early years, Don was an avid hunter of big game; upland birds and waterfowl, and furbearers and enjoyed fishing. He enjoyed the times he went elk, deer, and pheasant hunting with his sons. Don was quite the accomplished amateur gunsmith fixing many area weapons. He collected guns to the very end. The only literature in the “library” were hunting and gun magazines. Don was always the “Mr. Fix It Guy.” He would take anything apart and see if he could put it back together, and, have it work again. He helped fix many autos, bikes, snowmobiles, motorcycles, outboard motors, . . . . Don was preceded in death by his parents; sister Carrol; Laura, his wife of 47 years; and his second wife Darlene (Erickson) Adolfs; and grandson Colin. He is survived by; sister Kay Wickoren; a daughter Kristie (Bruce) Urbach; sons Randall, Clay (Anne), Brett; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
