GENEVA – Donald Eugene Reed, 83, formerly of Lake Road West, Ashtabula, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at the Cleveland Clinic.
Born April 28, 1925, in Ashtabula, he was the son of Robert and Florence (Kellogg) Reed and had been a lifelong area resident. On October 8, 1949, he married the love of his life, Helen Petric.

GENEVA – Donald Eugene Reed, 83, formerly of Lake Road West, Ashtabula, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at the Cleveland Clinic.
Born April 28, 1925, in Ashtabula, he was the son of Robert and Florence (Kellogg) Reed and had been a lifelong area resident. On October 8, 1949, he married the love of his life, Helen Petric.
A Veteran of the U.S. Army, Donald served during World War II. Prior to his retirement as a supervisor, he worked for CEI and after retirement truly enjoyed gathering with his fellow retirees.
Don served on the Saybrook Township Zoning Commission in the 1980's and was a member of the BPO Elks #208, where he regularly enjoyed his Wednesday evening spaghetti dinners with friends. An avid reader, he especially enjoyed fiction novels. He loved camping and traveling and had been to all 48 states, putting over 100,000 miles on the motor home with his wife, including his favorite destination, Bar Harbor, Maine. He served as wagon master in several of his camping clubs.
Mr. Reed enjoyed bird watching, flower gardening, crafts, cooking, and tinkering. He was a self-taught computer user and truly enjoyed using his PC, was a great cook who loved to make homemade soup in the winter, and was everyone's Mr. Fix-it, who will never be replaced.
Survivors include one daughter, Sue (and her husband, John) Tackett of Ashtabula; one son, Don (and his wife, Mary Jo) Reed of Fincastle, Va.; four grandchildren, Janet (Trevor) Doyle, Michael (Kim) Reed, Jonathan (Christy) Tackett, and Sara Tackett.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Rose (Petric) Reed on March 11, 2005; one brother, Robert Reed; one sister, Meta Wittmeyer; and his parents.
A Service will be 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 1st, at the ZABACK-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Plymouth Twp.
Visitation will be 10 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, at the Funeral Home.
