Funeral services were held Thursday, June 11, 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Anthon with Dr. Arnold Herbst officiating. Mary Jo Lyon served as organist and Roger Hiadik was the soloist. Pallbearers were Aric Petersen, Christopher Jansen, Jenny Petersen, Clifford McMurray, Heather Schager, Jonathan Petersen, Jill Petersen and Patrick Lane. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Anthon under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Service and military honors were performed by the American Legion McNiff Post #389 of Anthon. Donald Frank Gothier was born January 18, 1920, at Anthon, Iowa, the son of Colonel Frank Calvin and Nellie Mae (Neeble) Gothier. He grew up and received his education in Anthon where he graduated with the Anthon High School class of 1938. He then attended two years at Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska. He enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II where he served his country as a Lt.J.G. Navy Pilot instructor in Jacksonville, Florida. While in the Navy Don was united in marriage to Betty Dawson September 5, 1943 at Hawarden, Iowa. After his military duties were completed, the couple returned to Anthon where he went into business with his father and brother. They owned and operated the Gothier Mink ranch that included mink, cattle and farming. Don played basketball in high school, college and in the U. S. Navy, as well as a semi-professional. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Anthon, the Mason Consistory, the Shriners and the Royal Order of the Vester. He served on numerous boards including the Anthon town council and the First Trust & Savings Bank board of dirctors. He was also a member of the advertising board Black Glama and president of the Dark Mink Association. He was a member of the American Legion post #389 of Anthon. Survivors include Betty, his wife of fifty-three years, three daughters, Christine Elizabeth and her husband, Larry Jansen of Sioux City, Mary Ann and her husband, Terry Lane, of LeMars, and Patricia Jane Petersen of Sioux City; one brother and his wife, Everett and Wilma Gothier of Anthon; two sisters, Frances Schuh of Anthon and Doris and her husband Wayne Sievers of Storm Lake, eight grandchildlren and two great grandchildren, along with many other relatives, neighbors and good friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents.
