Description	:	Donald Frank Gulden was born on January 19, 1922, in Miles City, Montana, his father, Frank, was 40 and his mother, Isabella, was 39. His siblings were Alice Gulden, half-sister Jessie Crawmer and half-brother Fred Adrian Crawmer. Isabella's first husband died in 1904. Donald's father, Frank John, raised and loved Isabella's children, Jessie and Fred as if they were his own. Donald's father, Frank John, raised and loved Isabella's children, Jessie and Fred as if they were his own. Much to his father's credit, Donald would repeat this generous consideration later in his life. Donald grew up about 7 miles east of Miles City in the beautiful Yellowstone Valley. The beauty and charm of the valley was enhanced with the sound of the rolling Yellowstone River located but a stone's throw from the homestead. Donald graduated from high school and was inducted into the army on January 4, 1944, just shy of his 22 birthday. He was trained as a rifleman. He departed for Italy on July 26, 1944 and arrived in Italy on August 12, 1944. On October 10, 1944, while fighting in the Rome-Arno Campaign he was severly wounded. On June 16, 1946 while recovering from extensive wounds, Donald was dealt yet another devastating blow when he was notified that his beloved parents, Frank and Isabella, were killed when their stalled car was hit by a train at the railroad crossing located near their homestead. Donald was flown by plane from Fort Lewis Washington, where he was hospitalized and recovering from the wounds he sustained while in Italy. He was honorable discharged from the army November 5, 1946 with a certificate of disabily from Letterman General Hospital, San Francisco, CA. His decorations and citations included a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. Donald married his first wife Norma Lewerke (spelling may be incorrect) on February 14,1948 in Billings, Montana. They had a son, Frank D., who died in infancy on January 26, 1949. Their marriage failed shortly after their son died. In 1950 Donald is living in Missoula, Montana attending Montana State University working towards a degree in Business Administration. Donald graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration in June, 1953, he was 31 years old. Donald was the first in his family to earn a college degree. It may have been impossible for Donald to finacially attend college but for his country's acknowledgement of his sacrifice made possible to recieve a college education under the benefits afforded to those who proudly served their county. This consideration was greatly appreciated. Shortly after he graduated from college, Donald began working for the Veterns' Administration Hospital in Miles City, Montana. Donald married Carolyn Elizabeth (Bette)Hall. Bette's 1st husband was Victor Larsen. From this union, a daughter, Tamara Lane was born. Donald raised and loved Tamara as if she were his biological child. Donald was employed by the Veteran's Administration Hoospital in Miles City, Montana from approximately 1953 through 1965. Donald may have retired early due to circumstances related to the wounds sustained in World War 11. During the last several years of his life, Donald struggled with a variety of medical issues. It was during one such health issue that he passed quitely while hospitalized in the very hospital he once worked.
