Becky Lubbers will be the soloist accompanied by Jane Jaspers. Donald Gary “Boomie” the son of Donald Leroy and Lois (Tiggelaar) Nogelmeier was born August 4, 1944 in Clark, South Dakota. He grew up on a farm southwest (on the north shore of Goose Lake) of Watertown, South Dakota. He attended country school at Kampeska Township and then Watertown High School. Boomie was employed with his father on the family farm when he entered the South Dakota Army National Guard. He served four years and was honorably discharged on August 23, 1965. Boomie and Janice Maag were united in marriage on February 19, 1966 and to this union three daughters were born. The family lived in Tekamah, Nebraska for several years where he worked at various jobs including a farm helper, implement dealer mechanic, truck driver, and mobile home laborer. The family moved back to Watertown and he worked at Loken’s Sales Pavilion, D & D Feeds and drove a freight truck before he started full-time farming. Janice passed away in 2008. Boomie married Donna (Maag) Redlin on May 6, 2011. The couple enjoyed living and working on the farm. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, teasing and telling them of all his adventures growing up (both good and bad). He enjoyed restoring tractors, trucks and old cars and loved all kinds of car racing. He was a member of AA and appreciated all the friends and help he received from his friends at “the club”. And he loved to laugh and joke with friends. He was often teased about his daily routine …which started with feeding his five horses and many cats, then off to Worthington Ag Parts for a quick visit, next to Prairie Stop for a donut, then on to Watertown Coop Elevator to catch up on the news there and grab a bag of popcorn, and finally on to Hurkes Implement to have a cup of coffee with his friends and visit. And everyone knew coffee time was at 3 o’clock. Grateful for having shared in Boomie’s life are his wife, Donna; his daughters, Tammy Nogelmeier, Laura (Jon) Hegge and Kayla (Doug) Kannas all of Watertown, SD; his stepchildren, Bill Redlin (and his friend Tracy) and Craig Redlin of Florence, SD and Holly (Greg) Schafer of Brookings, SD; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; his siblings, Darwin Nogelmeier, Doris (Donald) Stark and Dona (Maynard) Groskreutz all of Watertown, SD; and sisters-in-law, Pattie Nogelmeier of Lawton, IA and Blondie “Fern” Nogelmeier of Watertown, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Janice; his granddaughter, Emily Hegge; and his brothers, Darrell and Delwyn.
