He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Church of Red House. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Korea. He was the first recipient of the "Tuckineer" award. Don was one of the original founders of Cortland Acres Nursing Home. He was a charter member of the board of directors and was currently serving as treasurer. ∼ Donald G. Roth, 68, of Horse Shoe Run, died Monday, July 5, 2004, at his home. He was born Aug. 16, 1935, in Gnegy Church, Md., the son of the late Daniel W. and Virginia E. Mosser Roth. On Sept. 16, 1962, he was united in marriage to T. Elaine Gnegy Roth. Also surviving are two daughters, Charlotte A. Cussins and husband, Donald, of Oakland, Md., and Arlene K. Lantz and husband, Willie Lantz Jr., of Oakland, Md.; one son, Daniel L. Roth of Greenville, S.C.; four grandsons, Erik and Nathan Cussins and Aaron and Levi Lantz; one brother, Earl Edward Roth and wife, Alice, of Renick; one sister, Mary Jane Gnegy and husband, Dale, of Oakland, Md.; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Roth retired in 2000 as president and chief executive officer of Miners and Merchants Bank of Thomas. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Red House. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He was a 1953 graduate of Aurora High School and a graduate of Fairmont Business College. He was an outstanding leader and organizer in many community and church organizations. He was the very first recipient of the "Tuckineer" award. Don was one of the original founders of Cortland Acres Nursing Home. He was a charter member of the board of directors and was currently serving as treasurer. Friends were received at the Hinkle Funeral Home from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and will be received at the funeral home from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church at Red House, Md., with Bishop Ralph Dunkin and the Rev. L. Keith Pittsnogle officiating. Interment will follow in the Red House Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to St. John's Lutheran Church of Red House, 3301 Garrett Highway, Oakland, Md. 21550; to Cortland Acres Nursing Home Association, HC 60, Box 98, Thomas, W.Va. 26292; or to any other organization of your choice.
