He was preceded in death by two sisters, Vanita and Geraldine; and two brothers, Bob and Dorance. Donald was born February 1, 1919, the son of Henry and Edith (Prabel) Scheer in Ryan, Iowa. On Dec. 28, 1943, he married Phyllis Rae Ford. She died June 9, 1981. Donald then married Harriet A. Wegermann on Oct. 2, 1983. He was a self-employed brick mason for 20 years, retiring in 1982. Don attended Squaw Creek Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Don spent many of his retirement years with Harriet at her lakeside cabin in Minnesota, doing what he enjoyed most, luring fish, both big and small, to his frying pan. In his last few years Don spent many peaceful hours i his favorite place, a tin-covered porch on his "farm" near Farmington in southern Iowa. With a cup of steaming, cream-laden coffee, a soft chair, and a family member or two by his side, he would speak of times gone by, the birds that winged their way across the blue, blue sky and of the many mysteries of the natural things before him. Our Dad's passing leaves us without words to express our great sorrow. We take pride in his honor as a man and the honorable life that he led. We take comfort in knowing that his life was rich and full. We thank him for his courage, his tireless work ethic and commitment to family. Our prayers to with him. A memorial fund has been established in memory of Don.
