Description	:	WATERVILLE - Donald J. Dionne, 79, of Waterville, died on Saturday, June 18, 2016, from a massive heart attack at MaineGeneral Medical Center's Thayer Center for Health, Waterville. Don was born on Oct. 14, 1936, the only son of Rosaire J. and Florence (Bolduc) Dionne. Dionne, 79, of Waterville, died on Saturday, June 18, 2016, from a massive heart attack at MaineGeneral Medical Center's Thayer Center for Health, Waterville. Don was born on Oct. 14, 1936, the only son of Rosaire J. and Florence (Bolduc) Dionne. During his childhood he was raised in Benton and then moved to Winslow with his family where he attended Winslow High School. On June 5, 1954, he married Mary Plourde. Don joined Waterville Fire Department Engine 3 Company on Jan. 11, 1960. On Oct. 14, 1963, Don was hired as a full-time driver for the Fire Department. He served as vice president of Local 1608 IAFF. Don was forced to retire due to health after suffering a heart attack on Dec. 12, 1976. For over the last 10 years he provided maintenance services at Meadowview Estates on Benton Avenue, Winslow, with his working partner and good friend, Frank Mietelski, up until his death. Don was a member of Waterville Elks Lodge #905 for over 46 years. Don was Elk of the Year of 1995. He served as chairman of Monte Carlo and volunteered for other events at the Elks Club. Don enjoyed hunting and fishing with his childhood friends, Edward Frappier and Henry Belanger; playing cribbage with his friends; and going to Hollywood Casino in Bangor. Don was an avid Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins fan. Don was predeceased by his parents, and daughter-in-law, Katherine. Don is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary (Plourde) Dionne; two sons, Ronald Dionne and wife, Emily of Brunswick, and Richard Dionne of Greenville; four granddaughters, Erron Jean Dionne-Jacques and husband, Anthony of Vassalboro, Michelle Dionne and partner Rachel Taranta of Somerville, Mass., Tracy Dionne of Austin, Texas, and Amy Dionne of Brownfield; and four great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his little companion, his dog Benjamin. A graveside service will be held in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 78 Grove St., Waterville. Arrangements are provided under the care of Aable Cremation Service, LLC, Waterville. In lieu of flowers donations in Don's memory may be made to the Humane Society - Waterville Area, 100 Webb Road, Waterville, ME 04901 (Central Maine Newspapers 6/23/2016)
