Description	:	Memorial services for Donald “Don” J. Smilloff, 83, Aberdeen, will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home with pastor Mark Zimmerman officiating. Graveside services with military honors will be held at a later date at Lakeview Cemetery in Columbia. Donald passed away Friday, January 15, 2016 at Aberdeen Health and Rehab. Don was born May 16, 1932, at home in rural Columbia, SD, to John and Vera (McCormick) Smilloff. He attended rural school and graduated from Columbia High School in 1950. Don was born May 16, 1932, at home in rural Columbia, SD, to John and Vera (McCormick) Smilloff. He attended rural school and graduated from Columbia High School in 1950. He served in the United States Army in Germany from 1953 – 1955, until being honorably discharged. He then returned home to farm with his parents. In 1974, Don married Sharon O’Brien and they lived at the family farm in Columbia until moving to Aberdeen in 1988. He later worked for Brown County for several years until retiring in 1998. Don lived at the Carlyle Apartments until recently moving to Aberdeen Health and Rehab. Don served as Columbia Township treasurer for many years, and was a lifetime member of the Columbia American Legion. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a passionate fan of the Minnesota Twins, and treasured spending time with his grandchildren. Don is survived by his son, Daniel (Heidi) Smilloff; their sons: Jacob and Charley; three step-daughters: Ronda (Paul) Neiger, Shannon (Scott) Murfield, and Joy (Erik) Dods; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Venita; and one granddaughter, Madeline Dods. Adapted from Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home obituary
