Brunscheen of Wyoming, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. He was born June 13, 1922 near Wyoming, the son of Herman and Alma Hintz Brunscheen. He began his education in a country school near Wyoming, and later graduated from Wyoming High School in 1940. As a young man, Don farmed with his father. On May 6, 1944, he married Cecelia Lasack at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oxford Junction. The couple began farming on a farm, southeast of Wyoming, where they would stay until moving into Wyoming in September of 1971. He remained active in the farming operation with his son Eugene, until his recent illness. He was a lifelong cattle feeder and grain farmer. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oxford Junction, where he had been a Lay Director in 1968. He had served as president of the Jones County Cattlemen's Association and was a 2000 member of the Jones County Cattlemen's Hall of Fame, served as president of the Wyoming Fair Association for 15 years, and recently served as Grand Marshal of the fair parade, and had been on the board of the Little Bear Country Club. He enjoyed golf, playing cards, feeding his cattle, going to the sale barn, and attending his granddaughter's cattle shows. In 2001, he won the Jones County Masters No-till Soybean Division. Survivors include his wife, Cecelia; one son, Eugene and wife Shirlee of Wyoming; one daughter Teresa Gray of Monticello; three granddaughters, Lisa Brunscheen and friend Todd Rickels, Kris Brunscheen, and Bailey Gray; and one brother, Herman Brunscheen of Monticello. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.
