Donald L. Marquardt was born on August 25, 1944 in Watertown, South Dakota to Carl and Adeline L. (Lauseng) Marquardt. He lived on a farm near Waverly, South Dakota and at a young age he moved with his family to Solo, Missouri. At the age of 13 the family moved to South Shore, South Dakota where he attended school and graduated from South Shore High School in 1962. Upon graduation he went to Rapid City, South Dakota and worked for a tiling company. In 1963 he moved to DeMoines, Iowa to attend the School of Computer Automation. Donald enlisted in the Iowa National Guard in February 1965 and served for four years and one month. He moved to Omaha, Nebraska and was employed by Blue Cross Blue Shield. Later Donald started his own computer business and traveled extensively. He then joined P. Kewit & Sons and retired from there in 1992 at the age of 47. After that he moved back to South Shore and spent the last 17 years working for the South Dakota Lakes and Streams. Donald also owned and managed the LakeView Resort in South Shore and also worked with a wellness networking company (NIKKEN). Donald was very active in his community and church, holding many different offices and was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in South Shore. He was very close to his family and friends and loved playing pinochle. He took a big interest in all of nature, the environment and conservation. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Rita Sleiter, Lorraine Miller and Beryl Drake; his brothers, Bob and Keith Marquardt. Donald is survived by his siblings, Richard (Mary) Marquardt of Missoula, MT, Maxine Bundy of Brandon, SD, Bev (Darwin) Anderson of Watertown, SD, Jean (Vernon) Dirck of Marietta, MN, Carol (Stan) Fry of Ozark, MO, Sharilyn (Dave) Peterson of Salt Lake City, UT, Diane (Jerry) Redlin of Watertown, SD, Dan (Jan) Marquardt of Mesa, AZ; his sister-in-law, Lois (Bob's wife) Marquardt of Wala Wala, WA; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives.
