He attended country school in rural Blencoe and Little Sioux High School. He married Agnes Wallace on October 26, 1936 at Glenwood, Iowa. The couple farmed in Monona County until his retirement in 1963. Survivors include his wife of Turin, two sons, David and his wife, Sharon of Turin and Richard of Moorhead; two daughters, Joy Hamman of Dunlap and Edna Ann Nikolaison of Turin; one sister, Mrs. Helen Mattson of Duluth, Minnesota; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and an infant brother Ronald Clarence.
