Description	:	Donald Lee Broening (Don) was born August 26th, 1941, at home, in Panama, NE. He was the first of three children to Everett John and Viola Adele (Voller). Don left his earthly pain on June 15th 2019 and entered the Church Triumphant. As a small child, the family moved to a limestone home near the current Izaac Walton League. He then attended the University of Nebraska... Read More	Donald Lee Broening (Don) was born August 26th, 1941, at home, in Panama, NE. He was the first of three children to Everett John and Viola Adele (Voller). Don left his earthly pain on June 15th 2019 and entered the Church Triumphant. As a small child, the family moved to a limestone home near the current Izaac Walton League. When Don was 7 years old, the family moved to the home he lived in until renting the farm on Highway 2 where he lived until 2016. Don graduated from Bennet High School. He then attended the University of Nebraska receiving a degree in Animal Husbandry. Don joined the Army National Guard where he was a mechanic. Having the honor of being the last in line (driving the tow truck) for the annual convoy to summer camp. While Don and two very dear friends, Don Ehlers and Ron Leader, were on a trip to the world’s fair, in Seattle, Don met the love of his life, Margaret Ann Reeves. They had stopped in Salt Lake City, to visit Ron’s cousin, Jeane Leader. The boys never made it to Seattle as they all had to return home for their various responsibilities. Don and Margaret courted until their marriage on January 8th, 1966 in Idaho Falls, ID. Don was heavily involved in his community. He was a member of Farm Bureau and Jaycee’s. He was on the board of the Bennet Co-op and the Rural Fire Board which he served for 29 years. Don was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was an usher for many years. Don and Margaret were members of two square dance clubs. Don loved antique tractors. Don loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren very much. He was always there to help anyone in their time of need. Though farming was his passion, he had a particular affinity for his Hereford cattle. Survivors include wife Margaret (Reeves) Broening of Bennet; sons Jon Broening and Matthew (Adra) Broening of Palmyra, grandchildren Alexander Broening, Kristen (Aaron) McCarthy, Maggie Broening and Benjamin Broening. Great grandchildren Parker McCarthy and Paislee McCarthy of Jacksonville, NC. Sister Betty (Dave) Kucera and niece Sherri (Ron) Coats. Preceded in death by his parents Everett and Viola Broening, sister Carol Leader, brother in law Ron Leader, niece Karen Leader, brother in law Edwin (Lee Jr) Reeves, and grandchildren Kaylee and Will Broening. Memorial service will be Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 10 a.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church rural Walton with committal following the service at the Bennet city cemetery.
