He was born Jan. 12, 1934, in Iola, KS, to Donald Lee and Myrna M. Menzie-Martin, Sr. He grew up in Humboldt, KS, and was graduated from Humboldt High School in 1953. On Aug. 31, 1957, he was married to Mary L. Murrow in Humboldt. He served his country for two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
