Pleasant for the past three years. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2014, at Central Presbyterian Church in Nevada. Don was born March 8, 1920, to Edward and Mary Catherine (Boggs) Williams in Libertyville, Iowa. After Libertyville High School graduation, Don served four years in the Army Air Corps during WWII and was assigned to Shepard Air Force Base,Witchita Falls, Texas, Airplane Mechanics School. He became an instructor in the Air Force Training Command, subsequently training flight engineers for B29 bombers at Laury Air Force Base, Denver, CO; Boeing Aircraft Plant, Seattle, WA; and Hondo Air Force Base, Hondo, TX. He achieved the rank of flight officer after Officer's Candidate School in Montgomery, AL. On August 29, 1942, while on leave during his service, Don married Mary Ailene Stout from Brighton, Iowa. After the war they started Williams Cylinder Head Company in Ames, Iowa, later moving the business to Nevada in 1947. Both Don and Ailene retired and sold the company in 1992. Don was very active in the Nevada community as a member of he Lions Club and Central Presbyterian Church for over 65 years, American Legion, Chamber of Commerce, Nevada Cemetery Board, and Indian Creek Country Club. He enjoyed golf until he was 90. Both Don and Ailene played in numerous bridge clubs and were always ready for a good game. Don survived by his daughters, Donna Lea Smith and husband Don of Isle Of Palms, SC, and Catherine Ann Twedt and her husband Dean of Milton, WV. His grandchildren will miss him greatly: Ryan Smith and his wife Candice of Andover, NJ; Eric Smith and his wife Eliana of Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Carrie Ann Twedt Phillips and her husband Joel of Greenville, SC. Great-grandchildren who will equally miss their "Bumpa" include Matthew, Gregory, and Rosemilee Smith; Samuel and Benjamin Smith; and Ashton and Ava Phillips. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and his wife of 66 years, Ailene.
