Read More	Muncie – Well known Muncie educator Donald Lee Slauter, 87, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Morrison Woods. He was born in Pence, Indiana on April 18, 1927, the son of John S and Margaret C Slauter and served his country in The United States Army during the end of World War II. While stationed in Alaska, Donald was entrusted with the task of arranging the discharge and travel home for all of his fellow company men. With the aid of the G.I. Bill, Donald graduated with a Bachelor's degree in secondary education from Ball State Teachers College in 1950 and completed his Master's degree in secondary school administration in 1956 at Purdue University Donald spent his career as an educator, serving as teacher, coach and high school principal. He was brought to Muncie from Plymouth, IN in 1970 to open what was then the new Northside High School. Most notably, he served as Superintendent of Muncie Community Schools for fifteen years prior to retirement. He was a member of College Avenue United Methodist Church, Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity, Indiana Study Council, Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents and the American Legion. He was a recipient of the distinguished Sagamore of the Wabash. He also served as president of Purdue Alumni Club and Muncie Exchange Club. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Ann Slauter (Pritchard) whom he married on April 13, 1957; two sons, Thomas Alan Slauter (wife, Dianna), their children, Cameron and Danielle, of St. Louis; and Robert Dale Slauter (wife, Clarissa) of Boca Raton, Fl. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Alma Greenwood and Barbara J. Slauter; two brothers, Charles W. Slauter and Ernest L. Slauter; and his parents. Family and friends may call from 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Monday, February 16, 2015 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel and after 9:00 a.m. at College Avenue Church on Tuesday, February 17, 2015. Services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at College Avenue United Methodist Church with Pastor Lisa Schubert-Nowling officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Ridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Community Foundation of Muncie-Delaware County, 201 East Jackson Street, Muncie, Indiana 47305.
