Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009 at Terry-Christie Funeral Home in Blue Rapids with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Waterville. Reverend Jeremie Vore officiated. Pre-recorded selections of "The Great Speckled Bird" by Roy Acuff and "Will the Circle be Unbroken" by George Jones were played. Casket bearers were Joe Blaske, Nick Blaske, Isaac Blaske, Brandon Nemechek, Jonathan Nemechek, Nick Barker and Bryon Nemechek. Memorials are suggested to the Brown County Hospice. Don was born June 18, 1939, at home on the family farm near Waterville to Roy and Lucille Lilibridge Nemechek. He attended Waterville High School. He married Darlene Picolet on June 18, 1960, at Frankfort. They had three children. Survivors include his wife Darlene; children: Lucy Barker and husband Terry of Sabetha, Roy Nemechek of Irene, S.D., and Lisa Lowe of Hiawatha; eight grandchildren: Joe Blaske and wife Jennifer, Nick and Isaac Blaske, Nick Barker, Brandon and Jonathan Nemechek, Richard and DJ Lowe; three great-grandchildren: Hayden, Logan and Cloe; three brothers, Melvin, Lyle and George; five sisters: Mable Brewer, Wilma Hogan, Verna Williams, Donna Whitesell and Vera Walsh. Don was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert "Bob" Nemechek. Don had been a logger for 37 years, served as a Volunteer Fireman in Frankfort, where he resided for 23 years.
