Description	:	Donald “Doc” Lloyd Meyer was born May 20, 1927 (the day Charles Lindbergh flew over the Atlantic Ocean) to Fritz Frederick and Bertha Louise Caroline (Kuhse) Meyer on the family farm south of Postville in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County Iowa. He passed away at Veteran’s Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa with family by his side on February 23, 2019 at the age of 91 following a brief illness. He passed away at Veteran’s Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa with family by his side on February 23, 2019 at the age of 91 following a brief illness. He was baptized in Elkader, Iowa on June 19, 1927 and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa on May 17, 1940 by Frederick R. Ludwig. He attended the Springfield Country School and Graduated from Postville High School in 1945. Doc enlisted in the Army and served as a med tech, and was stationed at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. He served in the Army starting September 21, 1945 and was honorably discharged on December 6, 1946. Doc then returned to Postville. While serving in the army he was awarded the Honorable Service Lapel Button and the WW II Victory Medal. When Doc returned from the Army he began his business of Don’s Radio and TV in Postville. This he did up until his death. During this time of having his business he was also busy with supplying local fairs and horse shows with their sound systems for their events. He was the owner of the Car wash in Postville from 1992-2015. He was a member of the Postville Fire Department from 1967-1993 and was known as the “Radio Man”. He served the Postville Community School District as a bus driver for 36 years. He was a member of the “Odd Fellows Organization” and sacked candy bags for the children who came to see Santa at Christmas time. Back in the days he could be found climbing hills with his motorcycle and at one time he took Aunt Sadie for a wild ride in the side car. Other numerous fun times were had with him “Supervising” the firewood cutting and splitting gatherings, the Family Potato Pancake Suppers on the old stove, and the projects that always seemed to turn out to be “family” projects. He enjoyed taking trips up North to go fishing, golf outings to the Luana Golf Course with Burr Cook. He also enjoyed spending time and visiting with family and friends, and even those he just met. He enjoyed mowing lawn, gardening, listening to the Little Dale Show on Saturday mornings on KNEI, watching westerns and the show Pawn Stars. Two other things that he enjoyed were BOCK Beer and Limburger cheese. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Survivors include brothers, Frederick ”Fritz” Meyer of Monona, Iowa; sisters, Joan Plaht of Postville, Iowa, Marlene (Willis) Livingood of Postville, Iowa, and Darlene (Harlan) White of Postville, Iowa; nieces and Nephews, Kathryn (Dale) Westendorf, Linda (Donnie) Muchow, Terry (Robin) Meyer, Michael (Linda) Plaht, Randy (Cindy) Plaht, Bradley Plaht, Larry Plaht, Mark Meyer, Bryan Livingood, Brent (Emily) Livingood, Lisa (Bill) Bullerman, Jason (Bridget) White and Sara White and many great nieces and nephews and extended family. Doc was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard (Darlene) Meyer, Harold “Hoot” (Doris) Meyer, Roland “Rolly” Meyer, Gerald “Pete” (Sharon) Meyer; brother-in-law, Harvey Plaht; sister-in-law, Shirley Meyer; niece, Sally Meyer and nephew, Scott Plaht. Funeral Service with Military Rites will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa with Rev. Lynn Noel as the Officiant. There will be a two-hour visitation from 9-11 am before services at the church. Burial will be held at a later date at Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa is helping the family with arrangements.
