Donald Roberts Donald Roberts, 51, died of an apparent heart attack at work at the post office in Havelock Friday afternoon, March 17. He had been postmaster there since 1966. Services were at 10:30 a. m. Tuesday, March 21 at The Church of the Resurrection, Pocahontas, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Hacker Amvets Post #39 conducted military rites at the cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles Mayo, Eldon Sernett, Leonard Sernett, Marvin Sernett, Eugene Sernett, and Kenneth Sernett. Surviving are his wife, June; sons, Joseph, Omaha, Neb.; and Dwight, at home; daughter, Mrs. Joe Reese, and Patricia Roberts, both of Tyler, Texas; Mrs. Beverly McGrew, Marshalltown; Carol Roberts, Ames and Diane Roberts, at home; one grandchild; mother, Mrs. Regina Roberts, Havelock and brothers, Bernard, Yuma, Ariz. and Gerald, Nevada. Mr. Roberts was born near Rolfe and attended school at Havelock and Emmetsburg. He served in the U. S. Army following World War II. He married June Huling in 1950 at Algona, and he was employed in the produce business at Emmetsburg, Churdan and Sioux Rapids. In 1959 the couple moved to Havelock where he operated B & J Produce until 1966, when he was named postmaster. He was a member of the Havelock Amvets, the National Association of Postmasters and National League of Postmasters."
