Hawley & Co., came to Nebraska City, June 4, 1857, and engaged in farming in Belmont Precinct. He continued this until he was elected County Clerk, in the fall of 1873, and held the office six years. After a trip to Europe, he became a partner in the firm he is now with, July, 1881. He was born in Argyleshire, Island of Isla, Scotland, February 8, 1835, and came to America in 1856. He spent most of the time at Green Bay, Wis., until he came here. He was married in Belmont Precinct, Neb., December 3, 1862, to Elizabeth Cook, a native of England, near Dudley. They have six children--Duncan A., Andrew, Hannah, Margaret, Lizzie and Florence. Mr. M. is a member of K. of P., K. of H., and royal Arcanum. Note: In the 1900 Census Donald and Elizabeth say she had 13 children; 8 living.
