Donald Norman Burns, son of Donald Raymond and Hazel (Shafer) Burns, was born on December 3, 1944 in Clarinda, Iowa. Read More	December 3, 1944 - March 4, 2006 Donald N. Burns, 61 of Sioux Falls, died peacefully in his sleep, at his home on Saturday, March 4, 2006. Donald Norman Burns, son of Donald Raymond and Hazel (Shafer) Burns, was born on December 3, 1944 in Clarinda, Iowa. When Don was young his family moved to Parker, South Dakota, where Don grew up and went to high school. It was in Parker that he first met Kathleen Bormann--the girl next door, who was later to be his wife. Following high school Don graduated from the University of South Dakota. Don married Kathy in 1968 at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls and began to raise a family. Don worked with Borroughs until 1971, when he began a career with John Morrell and Company. He loved his job and co-workers, and was eventually promoted to the position of Vice President of Beef Sales. He retired from Morrells in 1993 after 22 years there. He then worked with Federal Beef until illness forced him into retirement in 2000. Donald was a man of faith and an active member of Linwood Wesleyan Church, where he served as a member of the church's board for a time. He was deeply appreciative of his and Kathy's friends at Linwood and the strength of the church's community. Don was an easygoing, unselfish person who put his family first. He loved life and was very content with all that he had been given. He thoroughly enjoyed people, and liked to joke and sing. In his later years, he enjoyed gardening and flowers. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Kathleen Burns, Sioux Falls, SD; his three sons: Paul, his wife Katie, and their children, Annabelle and William, London, England; John Burns and his daughter, Ariannah, Mankato, MN; Steven Burns and his wife Sarah, Minneapolis, MN; his brother James Burns and his wife, Laurie, Parker, SD; his two sisters: Judy Ashton and her husband Bill, Sioux Falls, SD; and Barbara Christian and her husband Jesse, Sioux Falls, SD; his step-father Bill Dorrell, Clarence, MO; his step-mother, Bobbette Burns, Sioux Falls, SD; Kathy's parents, Earl and Lois Bormann, Parker, SD; his nieces and nephews; and a host of other dear relatives and friends. Donald joins his son Matthew, who went to be with the Lord at age 6; his mother, Hazel Dorrell; and his father, Donald R. Burns. Visitation will begin at 8am Tuesday, March 7, 2006, with the family present from 5 to 7pm and a prayer service beginning at 6pm at Miller Funeral Home, 13th & Main. A funeral service will be held at 1pm Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at Linwood Wesleyan Church with private burial at Rosehill Cemetery in Parker, SD.
