Donald Peter Kass November 7, 1920 - December 23, 2016 s Donald P. Kass, 96, of Sioux City, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at a local nursing home. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.christysmith.com. Don was born on Nov. 7, 1920, in Charleston, W. Va., to Owen and Wilhelmina (Sauer) Kass. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Alton, Iowa and then moved to Grand Island, Neb. to attend business school. It was there that he met his future wife, Beverly. He was called to duty while serving in the Iowa National Guard and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was united in marriage to Beverly Borland on Nov. 14, 1942 in Ojai, Calif. Shortly after their marriage, Don shipped out for foreign duty and served in battles at Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. Don was honorably discharged on Jan 2, 1946, so Don returned home to Iowa and he and Beverly made Sioux City their home. He owned and operated Kass and Company, a local accounting and tax preparation firm in Sioux City until his retirement. Don was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He enjoyed golfing and was a former member of Sioux City Boat Club and later the Dakota Dunes Country Club. He also enjoyed his work, playing bridge, and going dancing with his wife. Don loved to come home to his wife's cooking and he enjoyed having the family together, especially at Christmas. Those left to cherish his memory include three children, Roger (Madonna) Kass of Hinton, Iowa, David Kass of Merriam, Kan., and Tom (Deborah) Kass of Overland Park, Kan.; grandchildren, John, Kara, Britt, Matthew, Henry, Lea, Katie, Peter, Kevin, Mychal, and Steven; and great-grandchildren, Tyler, Andrew, Thatcher, Mary Nina, Molly, Noah, Annika, Avery, Beverly, Harper, Natalie, Parker Jean, Maddie, Emma and Colin. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly; daughter, Pam Kass; and four great-grandchildren, Peyton, Roona, Brooke Marie and Liam. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland or the Carmelite Nuns.
