Per Don's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial Mass will be held 10:30am, Thursday, (February 28, 2013) at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 410 Patrick Street, Dougherty with the Reverend Rodney M. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7pm, Wednesday, (February 27, 2013) at St. Patrick's Catholic Church where a scriptural wake service will begin at 4:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the Brislin Hogan American Legion Post 354 in Dougherty or the Gallagher American Legion Post 208 in Rockwell. Donald P. Hogan, son of James J. and Mary Mae Connors Hogan was born June 27, 1927 on a farm in rural Dougherty. Don attended school in Dougherty and graduated from Sheffield High School in 1945. Following graduation, Don was an Army veteran, serving his faithful country in Austria from October of 1946 to March of 1948, when he was honorably discharged from the service. On October 11, 1952, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Biggs in Rockford and to this union four children were born: Ron, Randy, Dave, Debbie. Don started his first business corn shelling and trucking. As technology developed and farmers started to buy combines, he owned a bulk truck delivering gas from the Farmers Coop Gas and Oil. Don never did retire, as he was involved in carpentry work, raised pigs, custom painted, farm hand, and opened the "Buzz Inn" in Dougherty in 1983. Don was a strong hard working man, taking care of his family, friends, community and was a friend to all. He was a member of the Brislin Hogan American Legion Post 354 in Dougherty. His memory will be cherished by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn; sons, Ron (Pat) Hogan, St. Charles, IA, Randy Hogan, Dougherty, Dave (Gerlinde) Hogan, Dougherty; daughter, Debbie (Jim) Bills, Rockwell; grandchildren, Jay (Joey) Elmore, Allison (Mark) Bawer, Jill Bills (Dax) Kuhfuss, Andy (Katie) Bills, Stephanie Hogan and Christina Hogan, great-grandchildren, Emily and Jesseca Bawer, Morgan and Madison Elmore and Lauren Bills; sisters, Gladys (Gene) Pfertzel, Rockford, Dorothy Foley, Webster City, IA; brothers-in-law, James Biggs, Charles City and Glen Biggs, Rockford, special cousin, Ed Soucek along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, twin, Doris Ewen and Lillian Anderegg, brothers-in-law, Leo Ewen, Russ Foley, and Russ Anderegg, Earl Biggs, Henry Biggs and Robert Biggs; sistes-in-law, Irene Biggs, Elma Dow, Gladys Waters, Sylvia Pahl, Donna Biggs, and Bonnie Biggs.
