Read More	POULTNEY - Donald Pritchard, 87, joined his Savior, Jesus Christ, for a celebration in Heaven on December 19, 2013, surrounded by his family, after a short stay in Rutland Health and Rehab. Donald was born December 15, 1926, the only child of Gordon and Catherine (Hughes) Pritchard in Poultney, Vt. He received his education at Poultney High School. He left school his senior year to serve his country in World War II. He was very proud to have worn the uniform of a United States Marine. After his service, he returned to complete his high school education. From there, he continued his education at Vermont Technical School in Randolph, VT, studying Agricultural. After graduating, he worked for Raytheon Corp. outside Boston, Mass., where he met Alberta Jacques, who was a nurse at the Child Care Unit at Mass General Hospital. They were married July 5, 1958, at the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid, NY. Donald was very proud of his Welsh heritage and was past President of the Poultney St. David's Society. His mother, Catherine, was fluent in Welsh, as were her siblings. Donald very much enjoyed listening to them converse, in spite of not being able to understand or speak a lick of the language. He returned to Poultney, applied his Aggie School training, raising and operating a poultry business with his father. He then owned and operated a ServiceMaster franchise for many years and enjoyed the people from all walks of life he met during those years. He also operated the Foundry Ice Cream Parlor in Poultney with his wife. He always looked forward with much anticipation to the yearly Welsh Family Reunion at the family's camp on Lake St. Catherine, a tradition that went back to when he was very young. Don was happiest and most content when he was in the company of family. For those who knew him well, his faith and his family were the most important things in his life, and in that order. His infectious laugh and quiet, nonassuming demeanor and always optimistic attitude endeared him to the people who knew him well. Even after he learned several years prior of his diagnosis with Alzheimer's and the road that lay ahead for him and his family, he commented that he could never understand why the Lord had bestowed so many blessings on him his entire life. Faith is a powerful thing. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alberta Pritchard; two sons, Chris and wife, Jean, of Poultney, VT, and Jim and wife, April, of Bristol, NH; and a daughter, Sue Harris and husband, William, of Poultney, Vt. Also surviving are his three grandsons, Michael and Matthew Pritchard and Robby Harris, and a step-granddaughter, Amanda Stockwell. Visiting hours will be held from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, December 21, at the Durfee Funeral Home, 119 North Main St., Fair Haven. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, at the Ira Baptist Church. Burial with military honors will be at a later date in the Poultney Cemetery.
