Description	:	LUBBOCK, Texas — Donald R. Johnson, 83, of Lubbock, Texas, and formerly of Huron, passed away due to complications from Covid-19 Tuesday, October 27, 2020. Don was born October 22, 1937, to John and Edna Johnson of Iroquois. He was raised on the family farm NE of Iroquois and attended country school. Johnson, 83, of Lubbock, Texas, and formerly of Huron, passed away due to complications from Covid-19 Tuesday, October 27, 2020. Don was born October 22, 1937, to John and Edna Johnson of Iroquois. He was raised on the family farm NE of Iroquois and attended country school. Don graduated from Iroquois High School and entered the US Army. He served as a radio operator and was stationed in Nuremburg, Germany. Upon his return from service Don began his career as a power lineman. He worked for the Martin Beach Co., Beadle Electric and NWPS, where he spent the majority of his career. Don built hundreds of miles of power lines in the Huron area, and enjoyed his work and the friendships with his fellow linemen. He retired from NWPS in 1998. Don met his wife Cathie and they were married August 19, 1967, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown. They were blessed with two children. He lived in Huron for most of his life, but spent retirement in Manhattan, Kan., and finally Lubbock, Texas. Don was a gifted musician and loved Bluegrass music. He played guitar, banjo and steel guitar. He really enjoyed fishing for walleyes on Lake Kampeska and the Missouri River. He was a Ham radio operator for many years, and talked to people all over the world. Don also enjoyed his many years volunteering for the Huron Hockey Association. Don was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Lubbock. He had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed a good cup of coffee. Don is survived by his wife, Cathie of Lubbock, Texas; daughter ; son ; brothers, Russel , Roger; and sister, Bonnie Don was preceded in death by his parents, John and Edna Johnson; his brothers, Owen and Bob of Huron; and his sister, Shirley Schaefer of Sauk Centre, Minn.
