Description	:	Mr. Donald Lammers, age 86, of Alton, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars. There will be a funeral service on Monday, October 8, at 11:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Mark Haverdink will officiate. Interment will follow at the Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton. Visitation will be after 3:00pm on Sunday, with the family present from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Donald Richard was born on October 12, 1925, at Alton, the son of John and Etta (Van't Hul) Lammers. He was raised at Alton, where he graduated from high school in 1943. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II. On June 24, 1949, he married Annetta Vande Weerd in Hospers. They made their home near Alton, on the same homestead where he was born and raised. He later went on to raise his own family and retire there. He and his father established and operated Lammers Repair at this same location. He then served as the United States Postmaster for Alton, and more recently, he and members of his family operated Green Acres Greenhouse. In June of this year, he and Annetta went to reside with their son, Greg, and his wife, Jeanne, near Craig. Don was a member of the First Reformed Church, where he had taught Sunday school and catechism classes. He also belonged to the Floyd American Legion Post in Alton, serving as commander and as adjutant for several years. He enjoyed sports, especially basketball, baseball, and golf, and he was a talented handyman, who built much of his house. Survivors include his wife of more than 63 years; two sons, Kevin Lammers, of Oyens; and Gregory Lammers, and his wife, Jeanne, of Le Mars; a daughter-in-law, Deanna Lammers, of Alton; seven grandchildren, Tamela Van Kalsbeek; Army Chief Warrant Officer Michele Lammers; Jonathan Lammers; Jeffrey Lammers; Jennifer, and her husband, Jacob Shipp; Gregory Lammers, and his wife, Dena; and Air Guard Senior Airman Jason Lammers; five great-grandchildren, Cameron Van Kalsbeek, Kylie and Kaleb Shipp, and Rose and Colton Lammers; and four sisters-in-law, Harriet (Al) Kooiker, of Hull; Tracia (Dick) Morren, of Beresford, South Dakota; Clara Vande Weerd, of Volga, South Dakota; and Ruth Vande Weerd, of Mazeppa, Minnesota. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Lammers; two sisters, Mina (Cornie) Harmelink and Jenny (Herman) Oordt; three brothers-in-law, Bert (Hermine) Vande Weerd, Nick Vande Weerd, and Harold (Dorothy) Vande Weerd; and a sister-in-law, Alys Vande Weerd.
