Donald, the 4-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Carmichael, northeast of Shelbyville, was kicked in the head by a mule Monday morning and killed almost instantly. The little fellow had gone to the home of Ernest Gibson, an uncle, which was where the fatal accident happened. His grandmother, Mrs. Charles Scott, was attracted to the barn by a cry and rushed in only to be kicked by the mule. Fortunately, no bones were broken and she was not severely injured. Donald attempted to go behind the mule to get out of the barn when he was kicked behind the head and died before he could be gotten to the house. Carmichael northeast of Shelbyville was kicked in the head by a mule last Monday and killed almost instantly. With his father the little fellow had gone to the home of Ernest Gibson, an uncle and neighbor, early in the morning to remain while his father went to a nearby mill. A short time later Donald, in company with a five-year-old Gibson child wandered into a barn where the mule was confined. Cries from the Gibson child attracted the attention of Mrs. Scott who went to the barn and found the little fellow standing directly back of the mule. As she stooped for the child the mule kicked with both feet, one foot striking the child back of the ear and the other striking Mrs. Scott in the chest but fortunately she was not seriously injured.
