Description	:	Donald Thomas Fordyce, 86 years of age, went to be with his Lord and Savior, November 19, 2010 at his home in Yakima, WA surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born June 5, 1924 to Roscoe and Matilda (Opsal) Fordyce in Hayti, SD. He was the youngest of five children raised by his widowed mother during the "Dust Bowl" and "Great Depression" of the 30's. He graduated high school in Hazel, SD. in 1941. Read More	Donald Thomas Fordyce, 86 years of age, went to be with his Lord and Savior, November 19, 2010 at his home in Yakima, WA surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born June 5, 1924 to Roscoe and Matilda (Opsal) Fordyce in Hayti, SD. He was the youngest of five children raised by his widowed mother during the "Dust Bowl" and "Great Depression" of the 30's. He graduated high school in Hazel, SD. in 1941. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1944 during WWII and delivered needed supplies to numerous European seaports. On June 22, 1947 he married Leona Robish in Hayti, SD. They farmed near Hayti for 20 years before moving their family of six children to Yakima, WA. He worked for Swift & Co. Packing Plant in Watertown, SD and Yakima, WA (H&H Packing) where he retired in 1977. He owned and operated family orchards in West Valley and Naches Heights. He attended West Valley Missionary Church for over 35 years where he enjoyed the fellowship of his church family where his sense of humor was always enjoyed and appreciated. He loved camping, hunting and fishing. His greatest joy was watching his sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren play sports. He was preceded in death by his son, David (who died of cancer) of Yakima, WA., his parents, a brother, Elmer of Hazel, SD, sisters Clarice Ingebrigtson of Seattle, WA, and Lois Singrey of Hazel, SD. He is survived by his loving wife, Leona; son Dale (Christy) of Yakima; daughters Darla Carlson, Silverdale; Teresa Tatro (Jerry), Yakima; Denise Stilley (Rick), Yakima; and Nelda Heimbigner (Mike) of Richland, all in Washington; a daughter-in-law, Carol Fordyce, of Yakima; a sister Viola Brekke and a sister-in-law Betty Fordyce of Watertown, SD; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at West Valley Missionary Church, 11107 Wide Hollow Rd., Yakima, WA. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given in Donald's name to West Valley Missionary Church or American Cancer Society, in care of Keith & Keith Funeral Home, 902 W. Yakima Ave., Yakima, WA, 98902.
