Description	:	Donald W. Hessheimer, 85, formerly of Crete, peacefully passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2017 surrounded by the love of his family at Sunrise Country Manor in Milford. He was born on September 8, 1931, the youngest of seven children to Mathias and Elizabeth (Schenamsgruber) Hessheimer on the family farm near Kramer. Hessheimer, 85, formerly of Crete, peacefully passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2017 surrounded by the love of his family at Sunrise Country Manor in Milford. He was born on September 8, 1931, the youngest of seven children to Mathias and Elizabeth (Schenamsgruber) Hessheimer on the family farm near Kramer. He attended country school through the eighth grade, then went to work on the family farm. In 1952 Don met Evelyn Cookus, and they were married on June 6, 1953 at the Lutheran Church in Kramer. They were happily blessed with two children during their 64 year marriage. Don farmed for many years, then worked at Wanek’s Furniture in Crete and finally retired after many years working with his son at H&O Small Engine Service of Crete. Throughout his life Don enjoyed all things John Deere and in particular, restoring antique John Deere tractors. He regularly drove an antique tractor through the Saline County Fair parade and the Wilber Czech Days parade. Old Trusty Tractor Days in Clay Center became an annual family tradition that Don started for his family, and great fun was always had by all. Those that personally knew Don knew he was a hard working family man who was full of life, very fun loving with a great sense of humor, definitely one of a kind. Don also enjoyed going to auctions, tractor shows, gardening, mowing, listening to Polka music, watching wrestling, visiting his children, and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Don definitely had a sweet tooth for his wife’s apple goodie and his daughter’s raisin cream pie. There wasn’t anything that Don wouldn’t do for his family. Preceded in death by his parents; sister Dorothy Hessheimer; brothers, Ervin, Elmer, and Robert; brother-in-law, Harold (Helen) Cookus; sister-in-law, Maxine (Gus) Riner; nephew, Dean Hessheimer; niece, Elizabeth (Hessheimer) Hawkins. Survivors of Don are his loving wife of 64 years, Evelyn, Crete; daughter, Judith (Brian) Sharp, Crete; and son, Timothy (LeAnna) Hessheimer, Dorchester; grandsons, Joshua Sharp, Lincoln; Tim Hessheimer Jr., Kansas; great-grandsons Peyton, Presley, and Price Sharp, Dorchester; and Taiden Hessheimer, Utica; step-granddaughters, Katlin Lawver, Lincoln and Karmen Lawver, Lewiston; step-great-grandson, Brock Tomek, Lewiston; sister, Myrtha (Hessheimer) Wolverton; brother, Maynard Hessheimer, both Crete; sister-in-law Dorothy (Robert) Hessheimer, Crete; brother-in-law, Gene (Ann) Cookus, Hastings; sisters-in-law, Marge Self, Virginia; Ruth Drevo, Kansas; Joyce Taylor, Arizona; Sharon (Ron) Spence, Martell; and many nephews and nieces. In keeping with the expressly stated wishes of Don, there will be no funeral service, he preferred to just be happily remembered. At a later date, there will be a private burial of the cremains at the Kramer Community Cemetery.
