Donald William was born July 23, 1923 on a farm north of Hull, the son of Jerry and Cynthia (Meerdink) Dykstra. He attended Lincoln Township School #1 through the eighth grade and attended the First Reformed Church in Hull. During World War II he served in the United States Navy, stationed in the South Pacific Ocean on the USS Gemini and the USS Talladaga. Anna Mae was born Nov. 1, 1924 on a farm northwest of Sioux Center, the daughter of Marion and Marie (Remmerde) Kuyper. She attended Welcome Township School #44 through the eighth grade and attended the Carmel Reformed Church. From ages 19 to 22, she was employed at the Schalekamp Drug Store in Sioux Center. Donald and Anna Mae were married on Dec. 11, 1946 at Carmel. They farmed north of Hull. In later years they moved into a house in Hull which Don built. He then worked as a carpenter and also a plumber for Zevenbergen Plumbing and Heating. He enjoyed helping on their farm and having morning coffee with others in the community. Anna Mae later worked part time at Den Hoed's Greenhouse and the Foreign Candy Company. She was also a faithful volunteer at the Pleasant Acres Care Center. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing and spending time with family and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Dykstra were members of the First Reformed Church where Don served as a deacon on the consistory and had been president of the Men's Brotherhood. In earlier years he also was a Sunday School teacher. Anna Mae had been involved in Reformed Church Womens Ministries and would often make coffee on Sundays for the Sunday School. They are both survived by their daughter and her husband, Lorna; two sons, Alan and Lon; and four grandchildren. Donald is also survived by two brothers, Joel and Leroy; and two sisters, Elizabeth and Marlene. Mr. and Mrs. Dykstra were preceded in death by an infant son, Michael.
