Read More	Donavan Dickes Donavan Dickes, age 84, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Friday, January 11, 2013, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, January 14, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton with Reverend Mark Lichter officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Yankton with military honors provided by the Ernest Bowyer VFW Post No. 791. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, January 13, 2013, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a rosary and vigil service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the Mass on Monday. Pallbearers will be Don's grandsons: Christopher Dickes, Matt Arend, Nathan Dickes, Patrick Dickes, Eddie Dickes, Jeremy Arend, Michael Dickes and Charlie Dickes. Honorary Pallbearers will be his granddaughters: Amy Westering, Sarah Dickes, Julie Wagner, Amanda Wagner, Erin Dickes, Danielle Wagner and Kristina Wagner. Donavan John Dickes was a twin son, born to John and Agnes (Handorf) Dickes on June 17, 1928, in Fordyce, NE. He grew up in Fordyce and attended Country School prior to attending St. John's Parochial School. Don graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Hartington, NE., class of 1946. He then attended Barber College in Sioux City, Iowa. Don served his country in the US Army for 2 years during the Korean War as a Corporal in the Military Police. Don married DelRae Weinandt on May 26, 1953 at St. John's the Baptist Catholic Church in Fordyce. Don worked in Yankton as a barber for 47 years, retiring in 1999. Don was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the men's choir. He served in the Knight of Columbus for over fifty years; as a Knight, he started the "breakfast club" in 1968, the year he served as Grand Knight. He was the "master egg fryer" for 37 years for the monthly Sunday Breakfasts. Don loved to sing, golf, play cards with his family and friends, and just spending time with DelRae. He is survived by his wife, DelRae, of 59 years; four children and their spouses: David (Marcene) of Chicago, IL; Deb (Paul) Arend of Des Moines, IA; Dan (Bev) of Sioux Center, IA; and Donna (Steve) Wagner of Sioux Falls, SD; 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 4 sisters: Delores (Rollie) Healy of CA, JoAnn (Bob) Healy of Omaha, NE, Sr. Rosaleen Dickes of Yankton, SD, and MaryLou Noecker of Hartington, NE. Don was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters: Lucille Huss, Leone Leise, Irene Callahan, Adeline Feilmeier, Esther Dickes; and 6 brothers: Ralph, Robert, Ray, Rev. Jerome, Gerald, and twin brother, Donald.
